We recently announced our expansion into Western Canada - an exciting step in our journey to grow with purpose and maintain close partnerships with the clients and communities we serve.
To dive deeper into what this means on the ground, we sat down with the person leading our Western Canada team - Alan Williamson, VP, Client Solutions. Alan brings deep technical expertise, a client-first mindset, and a passion for building high-performing teams. In this conversation, he shares what this expansion means to him, the opportunity he sees in Western Canada, and what’s next for Jarvis in the region.
What does the opening of Jarvis’s new office in Calgary mean to you personally and professionally?
This moment represents a really exciting intersection of personal and professional milestones for me. I’ve spent the better part of my career helping organizations across Canada leverage cloud and emerging technologies to solve real business challenges. Being able to bring that experience into a new chapter - building something from the ground up here in Calgary - is incredibly meaningful.
Professionally, it’s a chance to contribute to Jarvis’s continued growth in a region I know well. Personally, it’s a full-circle moment. I’ve worked with teams and clients in Western Canada for years, and now I get to build a local presence that reflects everything I value in a team: technical excellence, client-centricity, and a passion for making a real impact.
Why was now the right time for Jarvis to expand into Western Canada?
The timing felt natural, because the momentum is real. Jarvis has been growing steadily across North America, and Calgary is the next logical step. This city is so much more than an epicenter for natural resources, it is a data and innovation corridor as well as a booming technology hub.
Our team of expert technologists and advisors solves the toughest problems in data, AI, and cloud. At the same time, we don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions – it’s built around each clients specific challenge. Our approach is both bespoke and effective, and there is a clear appetite for that amongst new and existing clients in Western Canada.
This expansion is also about ensuring we can be responsive to our clients by meeting them where they are. Having a regional office in Western Canada will allow us to build stronger relationships with clients and enjoy closer collaboration as a result. It also means we are now positioned to serve clients from coast to coast.
What drew you to Jarvis, and how do you see your own values aligning with the company’s mission?
What initially drew me to Jarvis was its balance of ambition and authenticity. It’s a company growing fast, but doing so with intention and integrity. There’s a clear vision, a strong culture, and a genuine commitment to technical excellence and collaboration.
My leadership approach has always centered on building teams that are skilled, curious, and client-focused. Jarvis lives those values every day. It’s not just about solving problems- it’s about doing it in a way that empowers people and delivers lasting outcomes.
On top of that, what really stood out to me was Jarvis’s commitment to giving back. The company isn’t just focused on growth - it’s deeply invested in making a positive impact in the community, and that’s something I’m proud to be part of. That alignment made joining feel like the right next step.
What does "client-centric" mean to you in the context of this new regional presence?
To me, being client-centric means meeting clients where they are - literally and figuratively. It’s about having a nuanced understanding of their challenges and solutions that are tailored to their unique needs. This allows us to build trust which is critical to these relationships. That’s what has made us effective. It has also been our key differentiator.
You’ve led technical teams across Canada for years - what kind of culture are you hoping to build in the Western Canada office?
I’m looking to build a culture that reflects the best of what I’ve seen work - technically strong teams that are also collaborative, adaptable, and impact-driven. I want people who take pride in their craft but are also team players - curious, helpful, and willing to evolve as needs change.
At Jarvis, agility isn’t just a methodology - it’s a mindset. That’s the kind of environment I want to foster in the Western Canada office: one where people feel supported, take ownership, and enjoy solving hard problems together. And just as important, I want it to be a place where people genuinely enjoy showing up each day - a space where great work happens, and people feel like they belong.
From cloud to AI - how do you see these technologies shaping the future of work in this region? And what excites you most about growing in Calgary’s tech ecosystem?
We’re seeing a powerful shift here – Calgary is a true technology and innovation hub. Enterprise organizations here in Calgary – and across the region – are embracing new technologies to solve big, business-critical problems.
As for what excites me most about Calgary’s tech ecosystem, I’d say it is its sense of purpose and entreprenurial spirit. It’s still growing, but with strong collaboration, curiosity, and a focus on outcomes. It’s not about chasing trends - it’s about building meaningful, future-ready solutions. That’s exactly the kind of space where Jarvis thrives.
What’s your vision for Jarvis in Western Canada a few years from now?
A few years from now, the most important thing for me is having a strong team locally. This means one that is truly immersed in the region, and delivers high-impact work. Building a strong team will lay the foundation for helping our clients thrive.
This is what will help us build on our reputation as a trusted partner – something our existing clients already know, and which I’m excited for new clients to learn. It will also create hundreds of jobs, not just in Calgary, but in tech hubs from Winnipeg to Vancouver.
