JARVIS' HISTORY

Our Story

Our co-founders, Mike and Edward came from two unique and different backgrounds. Mike’s grassroots were in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition and Advisory services, and Edward came from a STEM background, having studied computer and electrical engineering.

They both recognized gaps in their respective fields, and realized there was an opportunity to join forces and create something that would reach beyond each of their areas of expertise.

MIKE CORBETT

From Mike's perspective, hiring processes had become antiquated and transactional over the years. He wanted to bring the focus back to the candidates, their character, and the qualities they possessed—not their qualifications. He wanted to make recruitment a human experience. In his mind, the technologies and softwares that had been introduced to streamline modern hiring processes had had the reverse effects of what was intended. Together with the overvaluation of experienced talent, these methods were hindering the quality of recruits, and sidelining individuals with overwhelming talent and potential.

EDWARD WANG

Edward was working as a software engineer in FinTech when he noticed an inconsistency in opportunities available to tech professionals due to factors largely outside their control. He saw a pattern in talented individuals who were competent in coding, but constantly overlooked due to their academic backgrounds, language barriers, or newcomer status to Canada. In a landscape of widening talent shortage, the skills and potential contributions of qualified individuals were being squandered.

TOGETHER MIKE + EDWARD

These experiences motivated Mike and Edward to form a partnership and create Jarvis – an entity that would blend modern talent recruitment services with technical training and mentorship for candidates, and tap into overlooked pools of resources to secure and scale effective technology teams across Canada and beyond. Today, Jarvis has expanded its offering to provide fully-managed consulting and advisory services, while leveraging its talent acquisition and incubation pipelines to close the gap between qualified talent and meaningful organizations.

We remain committed to representing the underrepresented, with an emphasis on those with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities. Each quarter, we commit a portion of our working hours to giving back to our local communities, through volunteer work, outreach, and charitable initiatives. We also hold industry tech talks regularly, where we host speaker panels of prominent leaders in the technology industry. True to our staffing roots, we specialize in providing career mentorship, resumé services, and job-searching guidance.
